Old enough for safe leash walking

July 21, 2016, 3:29 PM
Q: Can I take my 14 wk. old puppy on a leash walk if she is current on her vaccinations, but hasn't had the rabies vaccine yet? What kinds of situations should I avoid until she has the rabies shot?
A: If she has finished her regular vaccinations venturing into public use areas is OK. Even though Rabies vaccination is required by law the risk of exposure is extremely small. There is no need to postpone leash training. Postpone walks or hiking in the forest or untamed areas. Take a look at the videos on vaccination and rabies vaccination for additional info.
