Appetite Changing

September 12, 2017, 12:04 PM
Q: Why would my puppy not want to eat his food right when I put it out? He will sniff and and act like he is about to eat but then will either wait about a half hour before digging in or just eat later in the. He used to eat right when I would give him his food but now that he is 7 months it seems like his appetite has decreased. He is being fed the recommended 1 1/4 cups of food per day (1/2 cup breakfast, 1/4 cup lunch, and 1/2 cup dinner). What could be causing my puppy not wanting to eat?
A: In order to answer your question better I would need to know his breed and weight. In general a 7 month old small breed puppy's consumption would level off or decrease as body growth has markedly slowed or stopped. If he feels good otherwise I would just let him tell you how much he needs and adjust your offering accourdingly.
