Appetite of New Puppy

September 1, 2014, 4:13 AM
Q: The puppy ate a fair amount of the Royal Canine Dry food and drank water but does no seem interested in much more food of any kind but she is drinking water. The pup is sleeping but Mom is wide awake. She weighs 1 lb 11 oz . Should I be concerned? She was full of energy at 8:30 when she arrived. Ate, drank and went potty. Suggestions Thanks,
A: During the first week of transition to a new environment the most important thing is to be sure she eats at least each 1.5 to 2 hours. As a new arrival the most important thing is that she eats something regularly, this is more important that what she eats. Offering a "buffet" of canned food, dry food, baby food, boiled or backed white meat chicken or scrambled egg is a good plan so that each meal she finds something that she wants to eat. Once she is eating predictably throughout the day you can start to move toward the high quality puppy food of your choice.
