Not Pooping-Need to Worry?

October 2, 2013, 4:48 PM
Q: My dog hasn't gone #2 for 5 hours yet has eaten lunch. Is there a time period when I should get worried?
A: I don't get too worried about a puppy that has not pooped as long as they feel good, continue to eat and are not straining. It is common for a puppy to go most of a day without pooping. If you see a change in attitude, appetitie or especially if she is straining to defecate without success then we would consider an enema. Please let me know if you have further questions or if this situation does not fix itself with a little more time.
